A drawing pencil is not just another ordinary pencil. It is a wonder tool in the hands of an artist. Just as a chisel can work wonders on stone when given to a master sculptor, the drawing pencils can create magic when put in the hands of a gifted artist. Being inexpensive, it does not pinch the pockets of a beginner but at the same time is one of the most expressive tools in the hands of an artist.

Drawing pencils allows their used not only in making of quick sketches but also allows full blown artwork full of shading and tonal expression. Drawing pencils are available everywhere and even at school supplies.
Drawing pencils are available in many categories.

These categories are usually based on the hardness of graphite used and range from 9H to 9B where 9H is the hardest and 9B is the softest. A beginner should atleast have 4H, 2H, HB, 2B, 4B grades while and experienced artist may require all the categories of drawing pencils in his kitty to give the exact look which he visualizes using the right pencil.

The beauty of drawing pencil’s work can only be had if you use a special paper which has been manufactured specifically for the purpose of sketching or drawing as these papers have special textures in its fibers which allow the graphite of the drawing pencils to attach to the paper in a much better way than that by the normal paper. The ability gives the drawings and sketches a much better look.

An artist kitty of drawing pencils is not complete without a quality hand held drawing pencil sharpener and a good eraser. The sharpener must have a top quality blade which does not wear out easily and the eraser must be able to clean without any spots. The quality of the eraser or the sharpener must never be compromised and in some cases they may be even costlier than the drawing pencils.
