As oil and pastel colors and the canvas have become quite expensive a young and budding artist has found a solution to his problems of supplies in the form of Colored Drawing Pencils. Not only the tool is inexpensive but is easily available and allows easy expression of ideas and creativity.
The convenience and control offered by the colored drawing pencils has no match when compared to all the other artistic drawing tools. Drawing pencils can be used by a creative genius in most fascinating way and the resulting art can be a masterpiece. Colored drawing pencils can be used for giving a lot of special effects in any drawings. These are;
Hatching: This is primarily the use of closely drawn parallel lines to fill up a space. The angle, length, color and spacing of these parallel lines produce amazing effects.
Cross Hatching: These are over lays of hatching lines in different directions. In case one set goes from top to bottom the other goes from left to right. Then it may be followed by some diagonal strokes which produce a fantastic effect when using multiple colors.
Scumbling: This involves the use of a pointed pencil which is moved in a movement representing overlapping circles with light pressure which no doubt, is time consuming but the end result is worth praising.
Burnishing: This involves applying lots of colors, one on top of the other till such time that the paper is no longer able to hold on to the new color. The end result is a magnificent smooth surface; however care must be taken not to exert too much pressure as the point of your drawing pencil may break midway and damage the paper. These techniques of using colored drawing pencils work the best when used on textured paper.
Shading: Using sideways strokes of your colored drawing pencils from side to side or in from to back motion for covering the desired area. Different pressures while shading produces varying effect.
A good artist makes use of appropriate techniques to give his work the most artistic effect.
